A college student was tricked by a fake scholarship link, leading to an unauthorized withdrawal of ₹45,000 from his bank account.

A college student received a WhatsApp message claiming that he had been selected for a government scholarship. The message included a link to a website that looked similar to an official scholarship portal and asked him to complete a verification process. Believing the message was genuine, the student entered his basic details and bank information. He was then asked to enter an OTP received on his phone. Within minutes of entering the OTP, he received multiple banking alerts showing unauthorized transactions totaling ₹45,000.

The student immediately contacted his bank, reported the unauthorized transactions, and approached the cybercrime authorities. He also preserved the WhatsApp messages, fraudulent website link, transaction alerts, and other digital evidence. With appropriate legal guidance, the incident was formally reported and the available evidence was submitted to support the investigation and recovery process.
